1 arrested in Smith County manhunt
Chapel Hill, Tx (Fox 51) — Several law enforcement agencies were involved in a manhunt this afternoon in eastern Smith County near Chapel Hill.
On Thursday, at around 1:35 p.m., the Smith County Sheriff’s Office received a call on a woman who had been attacked by her boyfriend near the 13,000 block of County Road 285.
When authorities arrived at the scene, the suspect, identified as Jason Brian Woods, 30 , of Tyler, ran into a wooded area behind the home. Up to this point, Woods had dodged Smith County deputies on several different occasions dating back almost a year.
Smith County deputies, Whitehouse police officers and a K-9 assisted in the search for Woods. While they were looking for the suspect, he was spotted reentering the residence. Authorities forced their way into the home and arrested Woods.
Woods was taken into custody and booked into the Smith County jail on two counts of evading arrest. His bail is set at $75,000, but that could be raised at a later time.
The investigation remains ongoing.
