UPDATE: Smoke in Tyler area is result of controlled burn

Tyler — KFXK has received multiple reports of thick black smoke in the south Tyler area this afternoon.

Bullard fire officials say the smoke originates from a 2,500 acre controlled burn by the Texas Forest Service.

Firefighters have the burn under control.


Tyler — KFXK has received an update from The Tyler Fire Department about the smoke in the area:

The Fire Department has taken multiple calls for smoke in the city today. Fire personnel observed heavy smoke haze in most of Tyler. 

After contacting other agencies, notification was received that the Forestry Service was burning off 2000 acres in Kinard (Houston County). 

With the high winds coming from the south, the smoke is being pushed into Smith County and the City of Tyler
