Gregg County DPS officials tell KFXK two different wrecks led to to at least one fatality and one injury on I-20.

The first crash involving an 18-wheeler and a tanker happened near the Highway 42 exit at around 7:45 a.m., followed by a 5-vehicle wreck 10 minutes later.

According to authorities on scene, the second wreck was caused by passersby slowing down and stopping in the middle lane to look at the first accident.

DPS officials say a truck caught fire after being rear-ended by a car. That car was then struck by another truck, which was then hit by a semi. During the crash, the car involved spun into a nearby ambulance that was already working the scene.

At least one person inside the car was killed and another was taken to a Longview hospital with serious injuries. No EMS workers were hurt.

The name of the person killed has not been released.

No word on whether any citations or charges have been made.

All the vehicles have been removed, but crews are still on scene clearing wreckage. No fuel was spilled by the tanker.

Troopers hope to have one eastbound lane open soon. Both are expected to be open by this afternoon.

According to authorities on the scene, the wreck involves seven vehicles -- two 18-wheelers, a saltwater tanker truck, an ambulance, a truck, a sedan, and an SUV.

The ambulance was on the scene of a previous minor wreck between an 18-wheeler and the tanker truck, when the second wreck occurred.

At least one person has died.

A portion of Interstate 20 near Highway 42 in Gregg County is closed because of a multi-vehicle wreck. At least one person has died as a result of the crash.

A detour is being set up to divert traffic onto State Highway 42, then to State Highway 31, then to U.S. 259 and then Interstate 20.

KFXK has a crew on the scene and will bring you more details as they become available.
