Tax help for those in need
LONGVIEW, TX --- The Greater Longview United Way opened the VITA site on Tuesday, Jan. 25th. This is our fourth year of operation. The purpose of the site is to prepare and e-file tax returns for the low to moderate income people in our community. To qualify for assistance, the family unit must make $50,000 or less. Most returns that fall into this income range can be prepared at the site, however some more complex returns must be referred to a professional preparer. Volunteers are trained and certified by the IRS. In addition to filing taxes, we are also assisting with Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Individual Tax Payer Identification Number (ITIN) applications. The site is open on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm and on Saturday mornings from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm.
The site is funded by the United Way. In addition, we have received grant funding this year from the Wal-mart foundation, the IRS, Bank of America and the United Ways of Texas. It is open to anyone in the area.
