(Longview, TX) The City of Longview and Longview Dog Park, Inc. are encouraging residents to sponsor decorative fire hydrants at Stragent Dog Park, located at 121 Summers Drive adjacent to the Paul Boorman Trail. Individuals, families, businesses, and other organizations are invited to "Adopt-A-Hydrant" to benefit this wonderful facility.
Each hydrant may be sponsored for three years for a cost of $250, with proceeds going to help build sidewalks to connect the Stragent Dog Park entrances directly to the Paul Boorman Trail.
Thanks to the City of Longview Water Department, twenty "retired" fire hydrants have been made available for installation at both the large dog and small dog areas of the park. The hydrants have been powder coated and are ready for "adoption."
To add creativity to the hydrants, adopters are invited to meet at the Stragent Dog Park for a decorating day to be held from 9:00 a.m. – Noon, Saturday, April 21. All paint supplies will be provided.
According to Kristen Ishihara, President of Longview Dog Park, Inc., “Three of the hydrants have already been committed, which is an indicator of the growing support for the facility.”
According to Laura Hill, Director of Community Services for the City of Longview, “From its inception, the Stragent Dog Park has been a great example of the Longview community getting behind a project and making it happen. The Adopt-A-Hydrant fundraiser is a fun way for individuals and organizations to continue to help improve the park now that it is open.”
Those interested in sponsoring a fire hydrant may contact Longview Dog Park, Inc. by email at LongviewTexasDogPark@gmail.com.
Payment will be required prior to the event and hydrants will be sponsored on a first come, first served basis. For general information on the Stragent Dog Park, visit the City of Longview website at LongviewTexas.gov or call the Parks and Recreation Department at 903-237-1270.
