Man held in connection with Jacksonville woman's death

Jacksonville — A 42 year old Jacksonville woman was shot to death early Saturday morning, allegedly by a male friend.

Martha Caselin Ramirez was apparently shot at least twice and her body dumped on a farm in a wooded area off County Road 4201.

Jacksonville PD received a 911 call in the early hours Saturday from a man who told them he had just shot someone. JPD stopped and detained this subject and was told the shooting was in the county and Cherokee County Deputies were called. Sheriff's deputies and Jacksonville PD officers were directed by the suspect to a farm owned by the suspect on CR 4201 near Jacksonville. Officers found the body of Ms. Ramirez in the woods dead of apparent gunshot wounds.

Cherokee County officers believe that the suspect went to the victim's residence on County Road 3101 just outside of Jacksonville. They believe the suspect and victim were in his pickup and the victim was then shot by the suspect and taken to his farm The suspect then called 911 to report the shooting. .
Evidence later found at the home of the suspect indicates the suspect went to the home of the victim to shoot her. There were one adult child and two small children of the victim's in her home but they were unaware of the shooting.

The investigation will continue.

The suspect is charged with murder and is in the Cherokee County Jail. JP Tony Johnson held the inquest and the body has been sent to Southwest Forensic in Dallas.

The suspect is Jose Diaz Perez, 48, of Jacksonville. Bond was set by Judge Tony Johnson at one million dollars.
