(Longview, TX) The City of Longview Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Girls State Basketball Tournament March 16 – 18. This is the fifth time Longview has hosted this tournament.
The tournament is open to girls competing for seven state titles in four different age categories: 8-Under Division 1; 8-Under Division 2; 10-Under Division 1; 10-Under Division 2; 12-Under Division 1; 12-Under Division 2; and 14-Under.
Fifty-eight teams from across the state will be competing for the state crown. During the tournament, teams will play two pool games followed by a single-elimination bracket. Games will begin Friday evening and conclude on Sunday. A coaches’ meeting is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., Friday, March 16, at Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center, 100 Grand Blvd. A social event welcoming the players to Longview will also be held at Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center starting at 4:30 p.m., Friday, March 16.
According to Director of Community Services Laura Hill, "This is a big weekend for sports in Longview with two baseball tournaments and the TAAF basketball tournament all taking place. In total, there will be 112 teams with approximately 1,270 players in Longview this weekend."
