Longview hosts Baseball Super Series Tournament

(Longview, TX) Longview Parks and Recreation Department will host 46 teams from Texas and Louisiana on March 17 - 18, 2012 Approximately 600 Players representing 46 baseball teams from across Texas and Louisiana will compete in Longview for 8 U, 9 U, 10 U, 11 U, 12 U, 13 U and 14 U Division Titles. The tournament will take place Saturday and Sunday at Spring Hill Park, Lear Park Softball and Lear Park Baseball Complexes (9 Fields) in Longview.

The tournament will feature the teams playing 85 total games over the 2 days. The 46 teams came from as far West as Tolar, South to Lovelady, and North to Texarkana, and east to West Monroe, Louisiana. Brad Cooper and Dave Owens will serve as Tournament Directors.

Tournament play gets under way Saturday morning in all divisions. The Championship for the 8 U Coach Pitch will be Saturday Evening and all other Championship games will be played Sunday Evening. The Tournament was sanctioned by Mark Mathew, President of Super Series Baseball National Office in Mesa, Arizona.

In addition, Piney Woods Baseball will host eight 13-U teams (104 players) for a USSSA Qualifier at McWhorter Park Saturday and Sunday. Steve Pritchett and Phillip Thomas will serve as Tournament Directors.

According to Director of Community Services Laura Hill, "This is a big weekend for sports in Longview with two baseball tournaments and the TAAF basketball tournament all taking place. In total, there will be 112 teams with approximately 1,270 players in Longview this weekend."
